How to Make a Medieval Hat

Cut some sheets of A4 felt into long triangles, I used two different patterns of felt, mainly because I couldn't choose which one I preferred but also as I liked to alternate them. To gauge how many pieces I would need I had made a simple card band to measure my head and worked off that.

When your triangle panels are all cut start to glue them together, run a beaded line of glue up the length of one side of the triangle and match up the next piece of fabric, continue until you get to the end. Allow everything to dry as it will make the next step easier.

Take an A4 piece of foam and cut in half length ways, glue together at both ends to make the circular base for your hat, it can be adjusted to fit.

Take one red piece of foam and one green and cut into long triangles that run the length of the A4 sheet, I could fit three onto one piece of foam.

Glue the triangles to the inside of the hat base, alternating colours.

Attach a bell to the tip of each triangle. I did this by sliding the tip of the triangle through the bell loop, folding it back on itself and then adding a dab of glue. The bells will the weigh the triangles down and the hat will be complete.
