How to Make a Traditional Advent Train

Choo-choo-choose this as one of your Christmas makes this year! What better way to countdown the days 'til Christmas than with your very own traditional advent train full of little presents and treats? Red, white and green are usually used as traditional Christmas colours, as they remind you of little things like Santa's red coat, crisp white snow on the ground outside, and evergreen trees. They are all festive and are a constant reminder of the most wonderful time of year!

Step-1

Start by painting the surface of the carriages using red acrylic paint. Leave to completely dry before applying a further coat.

Step-2

For this step paint detail onto the front of the advent train, including Santa! You will need to use all 3 acrylic paints for this as well as a range of smaller, finer brushes to help get to harder to reach areas. I find that the key to painting this particular bit of the train involves being a little patient and taking your time. You could add more detail to the front of the train by using ribbons and other embellishments of your choice.

Step-3

Choose 2 of the acrylic paints to paint the surface of each drawer. Apply one coat of paint and then leave to completely dry before re-applying another coat. Use the third acrylic paint to paint the handles of the drawers.

Step-4

Use tacky glue to apply the numbers to the surface of each drawer. Leave to completely dry before putting back each drawer into the carriages of the advent train.

You could personalise this advent calendar further by adding yours or a loved ones name to part of the train!
