Paint the boxes with two to three coats of white acrylic paint and leave to dry.
Next fold the sheet of white card in half, and place on top of the roof base. Trim the edges if necessary, then glue in place.

How big should the boxes be?
In this instance the larger box is about 8 inches wide and the smaller about 6 inches. You don't want to go a lot bigger than this as this will change how wide you need the beams and windows to be.
