Celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation with our fun, crafty project and let the little ones get making using recycled materials.

All you need is a cereal box, some cardboard tubes and some fun decorations to make these wonderful coronation craft rolls, featuring King Charles and The Archbishop Of Canterbury. This project is perfect for getting your children's imaginations flowing, keeping them busy in the lead-up to the big day!

Royal Figures - Step 1
First, measure and carefully cut 3 of the tubes down to 10cm in height – you will need an adult to help you do this.

Next, paint the top sections of the tubes with beige paint, and leave to dry. Apply a second coat if needed.

Now cut out and stick strips of felt to the tubes - red and black for the King’s military uniform, burgundy for the Archbishop’s dress, and white and black for the Guard’s uniform.

Add a black belt and blue ribbon sash to the King’s uniform.

 

Then, glue some hair to the top of each using grey yarn, add some wiggle eyes and draw smiles with a black pen.

Now, using your template as a guide, draw and cut out a paper crown. Once cut out, assemble and stick in place with glue.

Cut out a circle of purple felt and glue it inside the crown, then adorn with gem stones.

Add a white felt cloak trimmed with pieces of gold cord and a gem stone to the Archbishop.

 

Use the template to create his headdress and stick it in place with glue.

Now, cut and wrap a red felt jacket around the Guard and glue it in place.

 

Then, trim it with pieces of gold cord.

Next, add a white ribbon sash to the Guard, and use the template to draw and cut out a gold paper helmet. Glue it in place, along with a gold cord strap.

Glue some 9cm lengths of beige yarn to the top of the Guard’s helmet and leave to dry.

Now it's time to make the horse –  flatten a tube and use the template to draw and cut out the body.

 

Then, draw and cut out the head on the leftover piece of cardboard.

Fold down the top of the neck , stick the head in place, and leave to dry.

Paint the horse brown, and allow to dry. Apply a second coat if needed.

Finally cut some 7cm lengths of beige wool to be used for the horse’s mane and tail. Carefully glue them in place.

Westminster Abbey - Step 1
To create the Abbey, first use a ruler and pencil to draw 2 towers on either side of the front and back of an empty cereal box.

Carefully cut out the shape with scissors - you may need to ask an adult for help with this.

Next, paint the box beige, and leave to dry before applying a second coat.

Now, draw vertical and horizontal lines on the painted box using a ruler and pencil.

Then use the templates to draw the arched windows and door.

Finally, go over the pencil lines with a white paint pen, and leave to dry.

And there you have it, your coronation craft rolls are complete and ready to take pride of place in your home!
