Tension: 11 sts and 11 rnds to 10 cm (4 in) over rnds of dc using 6 mm hook or the size required to give the correct tension. Check your tension – if fewer stitches use thinner hook, if more stitches use thicker hook. It is essential to work to the stated tension to ensure the correct size of garment.

The placemat is worked in rnds in a continuous spiral. Foundation chain. Make 3 ch and join with sl-st to first ch to make a ring.

Rnd 5. 1 dc in each dc to end.
Rnd 6. *1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * to end. 54 sts.
Rnds 7-9. 1 dc in each dc to end.
Rnd 10. *1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * to end. 72 sts.
Rnds 11-12. 1 dc in each dc to end.
Rnd 13. *1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * to end. 108 sts.
Rnds 14-18. 1 dc in each dc to end.
Rnd 19. *1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * to end. 144 sts
Rnd 20. 1 dc in each dc to end.
Rnd 21. 1 dc in each dc to last dc, 1 sl-st in last dc.
Fasten off.
