Good value kit let down by horrendous decals
This Mistercraft kit of the Piper Cub is a reboxing of an old Heller Kit from 1979. It is actually 1/50th Scale rather than 1/48, but its close enough. I was actually very pleased with the quality of the kit itself when I opened the box. There was very little flash and the parts were moulded very cleanly. The instructions were disappointing, Stage 2 the assembly of the bottom part of the engine cowling is very ambiguous, I had to find photos of this area of the actual aircraft to see how it should go together. Also there is no mention of party 7 (the instrument panel). But the kit went together well apart from the final stage of fixing the struts under the wings - These seemed to be a bit too short and I had difficulty locating them. Nethertheless, If I was just reviewing the model itself I would give it 4 stars - good value for the price. However, the whole thing is let down by the decals, they are truly awful and fail in every way. They are thick, yet translucent, they simply do not stick and are brittle and break up easily. I had hoped to build one of the American "D-Day" schemes on the decal sheet but this was simply impossible. In the end I had to settle for the scheme with the simplest decals - The Polish scheme, but even here the decals fell down, the insignia for the tail was much too big and overscale. To get the decals to stick I literally had to stick them on using varnish. Very, very disappointing.

Poor model kit
I did buy this while the wife was looking else where, I wish I left it on the shelf. Very poor instructions to go with a very poor and very old kit nowadays. Don't buy unless you really need a 1/48 piper and you are an experienced model maker but even then you will be swearing. Good luck

Don’t bother
I would give it 0 if I could. Flimsy , rubbish instructions, sorry I bothered. Still don’t know what the lit candle is all about.
