Cotton Lace provides exciting base layer for machine embroidery.
Using Wendy Dolan's book[Layer, Paint and Stitch] as a guide my two friends and I used two designs of cotton lace along with other fabrics to create a textured base layer for the wrought ironwork of an old Portuguese door, part of an Italian church tower, the waves on the sea shore and the summer meadow with all its flowers. It was ideal because being a natural fibre it absorbed the paint well and didn't shred into pieces when we cut into it and it kept its shape and pattern when we stitched into and over it, so it is now a must-have item in our stash of materials.

Pretty lace edging
I bought this lace to cheer up a plain jumper which I've had for years. I sewed it into the V neckline and also on the cuffs. I've had many compliments so it did the trick. Thank you.
