Wooden coasters, both acrylic paints and my acrylic pens were good on these. With enough layers of paint the wood texture does not show with less it will.

FAO L Bayston-I love the washi tapes effect. How do you get the tape to adhere permanently to the coaster? Often the adhesive isn’t the best on the taps. Thank you.
Perhaps try using the tape like paper mache, with pva then add a layer of clear PVA over the top the create a shiny finish and hold everything together. If that doesn’t work try sticking the tape to paper first then cutting it out and using glue. Varnish your work after for a longer lasting finish. Good luck!
