Gender Pay Gap Report 2019

Hobbycraft is the UK’s leading Arts and Craft’s retailer, specialising in retailing Arts and Craft products for over 250 different activities. At Hobbycraft we pride ourselves on our people being at the heart of everything we do, be it customers or colleagues. We are committed and passionate about team diversity and a fair working environment for all.

Background

This data has been produced using the calculations detailed in the Gender Pay Gap Reporting legislation. The Gender Pay Gap shows the average pay of all the males in a defined group (in this case all our Colleagues) against the average pay of all the females in the same group. It is different to equal pay comparison, which examines if male and female Colleagues receive equal pay for equal work. The statutory calculations also do not allow for full time equivalent normalisation.

At the time of reporting 77% of Hobbycraft’s total Colleagues were female. In our stores, 83.3% of our Colleagues were female and 16.7% male. In our support functions 56.1% of Colleagues were female and 43.9% were male.

Our Gender Pay Gap

23% Lower (mean) 7% Lower (median)

Why the Gap?

61% of men received a Bonus payment and 66.7% of women. Bonus payments were 80.6% (mean) and 57.5% (median). These figure are a vast contrast to lasts years report due to the changes we have made to our bonus scheme which has made it more inclusive of every colleague at each level of the business.

Gender Bonus Gap

In the reporting period limited bonus payments were made. 0.4% of men received a Bonus payment and 0.6% of women. Bonus payments for men were 5.6% higher and (mean) and 61.57% (median).

Pay Quartiles

Actions

Hobbycraft are pleased that 66% of its top quartile earners are female; this has improved 3% from last year as we continue to drive our commitment towards diversity.

Within the Upper Middle Quartile, the male percentage has increased by 1%.

The Lower Middle Quartile has seen an increase in males by 3%.

The Lower Quartile remained the same as last year.

Hobbycraft are pleased to see increases across the quartiles for both males and female as it demonstrates a continued dedication to gender diversity. We understand the nature of our business correlates to an increased female workforce and is representative of the retail environment. We are committed to focusing on reducing the gender pay gap and bonus pay gap throughout the business.
