Step 1

Cut out both templates

Cut your fabric using the larger template as a guide and place the smaller template onto the cut fabric

Fold both the fabric and the template to ensure that they are centred

Fold each overlap and press with an iron

Take out cardboard template

Fold in half to find the middle, place a chalk mark towards the top of the fabric. This is where the buttonhole will be sewn. Place the button centrally on this mark, and chalk either side to gauge size

Step 7

Using the sewing machine, sew a button hole over the chalk marks

Step 8

Use a seam ripper to open the button hole. Rip from halfway on each side to ensure a controlled rip

Cut out both templates

Chalk around the pocket onto backing fabric, and chalk into the button hole to show where to sew button

Hand sew the button onto the backing fabric

Step 11

Pin the pocket in place over the chalk marks

Using the sewing machine, sew the pocket onto the backing fabric using the chalk marks as a guide

Remove pins
