Decorating the table for a pirate party is great fun – just let your imagination run wild. A blue tablecloth works as the sea while a piece of doweling clamped on to each end of the table is the perfect support for sparkly pirate flags. Every pirate ship has to have a Jolly Roger but any seafaring image would look just as good. These large flags (pictured below) are cut from hessian sacks with appliqued designs cut from sparkly fabric.

Ahoy Me Hearties!

Carrying the theme through on the table itself is easy too. Anything that reminds you of the sea works well – starfish, crabs, even smooth white pebbles will look good.Design your own invitations to fit the theme. Cut shapes from paper to create a pirate ship and add stick-on glitter letters for the finishing touch. Or get creative and make a 3D one. Fold a large triangle of striped paper to make the boat with masts and flag pole from wooden skewers. The bunting is stuck on to green wire. A Jolly Roger flag completes the look.

Choose paper plates with a pirate design and stick friendly fish on to plastic beakers for drinks and your very own Jack Sparrow is sure to be thrilled.

Mini portions of fish and chips served in colourful cones are great for pirate parties, while meatballs could double as cannonballs. Wedges of orange with flags in them make fab, and healthy, boats.

Making a parrot will keep boys amused. Cut out gold card. Cover with double-sided tape and go mad with feathers. And don't forget the stick-on eyes!

It wouldn't be a pirate party without a treasure hunt so we've created a fun game that everyone will enjoy playing. Chocolate coins make the perfect pirate treasure, piled up in a treasure chest or simply used to fill party bags.
